The election commissions of the republics of Donbass and the territories of Zaporozhye and Kherson regions taken under control during the military operation in Ukraine presented the results of the second day of the referendum on joining Russia.
The highest turnout was recorded in the Donetsk People's Republic— 55.05%, said the head of the CEC Vladimir Vysotsky, RIA Novosti reports. More than 850 thousand people have already managed to vote, and more than 235 thousand of them cast their votes in foreign polling stations.
In the Lugansk People's Republic, 21.97% of voters voted, as a result, the turnout was 45.86% in two days, said Elena Kravchenko, chairman of the CEC of the republic, RIA Novosti reports. According to the representative of the electoral committee Svetlana Kirsanova, more than 110 thousand citizens of the LNR cast their vote. Representative of the People's Militia of the Republic Andrei Marochko added that more than 90% of the military voted in the department.
The total turnout for two days of voting at the referendum in the Kherson region is 31.79%, said Marina Zakharova, chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Kherson region, adding that on September 24, residents of the region voted more actively than the day before.
Chairman of the election commission of the Zaporozhye region Galina Katyushchenko said that 35.54% of voters voted during the two days of the referendum. More than 12,000 people took part in the voting.
Foreign observers are present at the referendums, in particular from Belarus, Germany, Serbia, Turkey and France. They said that the voting is taking place in accordance with international law and is transparent.
However, a number of states, including the countries of the “Big Seven” condemned the holding of referendums and ruled out the recognition of the voting results. Turkey also refused to recognize them. In early August, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called referendums a condition for ending negotiations with Russia.
